  • 2019 Australian British Health Catalyst Delegation

Australia and the UK face similar challenges: ageing populations, increased healthcare costs and pressures on Government and Health Insurance funding. The Australian British Health Catalyst 2019 theme is Integrated Healthcare in a Digital World.

Aimed at healthcare leaders the Delegations’ main goal is to facilitate greater two-way trade and investment between the United Kingdom and Australia by bringing senior corporate and government representatives together. There is also the aim of developing and delivering a return on knowledge through collaboration and exchange of innovative initiatives

Following the success of the Infrastructure and Financial Services delegations, the Health Catalyst representatives will travel to London and Cambridge in early July 2019. The programme will examine patient-centric digital health technologies – from better management of records, facilities and diagnoses, what the care network of the future looks like, and how to recognise the cyber security challenges of today

    Event Details:

    Date: 8 – 11 July

Time: All day events, see Programme Flyer for more details

    Location: London & Cambridge, UK

  • Federal Budget win for WAHTN

The Federal Government has announced it will continue to support medical and health research by investing a significant amount of funds into the national Alliance of Advanced Health Research Translation Centres, which includes WAHTN. The Australian Health Research Alliance has been awarded $218 million in funding for Rapid Applied Research Translation over the next ten years.

This funding and long-term investment represents a major endorsement of the Translational Research Centres and our leading role in accelerating the translation of research into policy and practice for greater health impact. The funding will support collaboration and our efforts toward enhancing integration across healthcare, research and education.

Executive Director of WAHTN, Professor Gary Geelhoed has said “We’re extremely happy that the federal budget included continued funding of the national Advanced Health Research Translation Centres. It shows an ongoing commitment by the federal government to these Centres and recognises their increasing importance to healthcare in Australia. It will allow WAHTN to continue our leading role in promoting, supporting and translating medical research into better healthcare for all West Australians”

  • 2019 REDCap Workshops

The Telethon Kids Institute’s Biometrics team provides access to REDCap for all Telethon Kids, Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS), and Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) researchers.

The workshops are intended as a hands on approach for researchers wanting to learn how to build and manage projects within REDCap or further develop skills in order to make use of some of REDCap’s more advanced features.

The REDCap Basics workshop will offer an introduction to building databases in REDCap and will cover basic concepts and best practices to equip researchers in building a database for their research project. This workshop will be most useful to anyone building a new project in REDCap and those who have been tasked with managing or maintaining an existing database.

The REDCap Intermediate workshops offers a more comprehensive look at creating a database and using surveys, and will build upon the topics introduced in the REDCap Basics workshop. Those attending this workshop should be familiar with navigating and using REDCap for project set-up and will be most beneficial to those who have identified an upcoming need for the advanced functionality covered in this workshop.
