  • Premier’s Science Fellowship Program

    The Office of Science is now accepting applications for the 2017 Round of the Premier’s Science Fellowship Program.

    This round will provide funding support over four years to attract a leading researcher and a supporting early to mid-career researcher as a package to address an area of need in WA related to human phenomics research and data analysis.

    Applications must be submitted by the WAHTN as the Lead Applicant, in conjunction with one or more eligible host organisations based in WA. National collaborations will be considered favourably.

    It is crucial that partners and the WAHTN work together in preparing a submission.

    Please contact our office by the end of June if you are planning on developing an application, and/or have nominations in mind for these awards.

    Fund applications with WAHTN sign-off must be received by the Department at the Office of Science by 3.00 pm (AWST) on Tuesday 12 September 2017.

    Applications will be evaluated by an independent panel and recommendations made to the Minister for Science.

    Successful applicants will be notified by emailed letter as to the success or otherwise of their application.

  • IPREP opens new career opportunities for PhD Graduates

    iPREP is a novel program linking PhD students from all 5 WA universities to work in interdisciplinary teams on business projects.

    Since 2015 the Western Australian Health Translation Network (WAHTN) has engaged with iPREP to assist with the implementation of the Research Education Training Program (RETP).

    The RETP supports researchers and health practitioners by providing high quality, up-to-date online training research modules and other educational resources to improve the quality and outcomes of health and medical research in WA.

    Rashmi Watson, Head of the RETP has mentored four iPREP projects and subsequently employed four PhD graduates from Curtin, Murdoch, and ECU through the iPREP program.

  • Professor John Challis awarded the Lifetime Distinguished Service Award by the Society for Reproductive Investigation

    Professor John Challis, Executive Director of WAHTN has received the Lifetime Distinguished Service Award of the Society for Reproductive Investigation given to an individual who has “made significant contributions to the fields of reproductive biology and women’s health research”. Presentation of the Award will take place at the Society’s Annual meeting in San Diego CA, March 2018.

  • A BioZone and ASCEPT Symposium: Towards Personalised Therapeutics Technologies

    The symposium will highlight capabilities across WAHTN partners and beyond in neuroscience, chemistry, regenerative medicine, perinatal health, bioengineering, proteomics and entrepreneurship.

    It is supported by Accelerating Australia, the Raine Medical Research Foundation and the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, and will be held on Thursday the 13th of July.

    A number of leading scientists will be speaking about their work at the McCusker Auditorium at the Harry Perkins Institute (QEII Medical Centre) including Raine Visiting Professor Shulamit Levenberg from Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.

    The course is suited to Knowledge Translation professionals, clinicians, clinician-scientists, educators and decision makers.  The material is universally applicable across sectors, job roles and geographic location.

    This is a very practice-oriented course that covers:

    1. The utility of KT, for researchers, educators, clinician-scientists and others

    2. KT strategies and their evidence base

    3. Developing a KT plan (practical, hands-on approach using tools)

    4. Plain language communication 5. Communicating with different audiences
